Who we are

About Southern Arts and Events Southern Arts and Events began with a simple belief: the arts have the power to build confidence, spark creativity, and bring people together.

Over 25 years ago, founder Kimberly Sumerel launched Children’s Educational Theater to help young people discover their self-worth through the performing arts. What started as a small program quickly grew into something much bigger—a lifelong mission to create spaces where artists of all kinds can shine.

Today, Southern Arts and Events carries that vision forward by producing curated cultural experiences that highlight artistry in every form. From seasonal craft shows and garden festivals to jazz concerts and holiday celebrations, each event is designed to connect communities, showcase local talent, and celebrate creativity.

In addition to leading Southern Arts and Events, Kimberly is also a visual artist and the owner of The Painted Label, where she transforms her original artwork into fashion and lifestyle pieces. This dual role—as both artist and advocate—gives her a unique perspective on the challenges independent creatives face and fuels her commitment to providing them with a platform for success.

At its heart, Southern Arts and Events is about connection: a child stepping on stage for the first time, an artist meeting a new collector, or a family discovering something beautiful together. Through every event, the goal remains the same—building something joyful, inclusive, and lasting.
